He also was directly involved in the development of the International Association of Methodist Schools, Colleges, and Universities (IAMSCU).

In his current role, Dr. Yamada assists the general secretary in planning and developing global education initiatives. He also works with the associate general secretaries of the Division of Higher Education and the Division of Ordained Ministry to further strengthen the connectional systems among United Methodist-related schools, colleges, universities, and theological schools.
