| The
Debate over Global Warming is dominating the media and is now coming
to Ferrum College. The Student Government Association is proud to announce
that Dr. Pat Michaels, climatologist from the University of Virginia,
will be speaking at the College to discuss his views on Global Warming.
According to Nature magazine, Michaels is one of the most popular lecturers in the nation on the subject of global warming. He is the leading spokesperson for scientists who believe Global Warming is not occurring. Michaels was an author of the 2003 climate science "Paper of the Year" awarded by the Association of American Geographers, for the demonstration that urban heat-related mortality declined significantly as cities became warmer. His writing has been published in major scientific journals, including Climate Research, Climatic Change, Geophysical Research Letters, and Science; and his articles have appeared in the Washington Post, the Washington Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Wall Street Journal, and USA Today. He has appeared on several TV and radio including ABC, NPR's All Things Considered, PBS, Fox News Channel, and CNN. He holds A.B. and S.M. degrees in biological sciences and plant ecology from the University of Chicago, and he received his Ph.D. in ecological climatology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1979. Michaels' lecture will be held at the Blue Ridge Mountain Room in Franklin Hall on Monday, March 19th from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. After his presentation there will be a question and answer session for the audience. The public is welcome to attend. Ferrum College is a four-year, private, co-educational, liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Ferrum offers a choice of nationally recognized bachelor’s degree programs at a cost well below the national average for private colleges. For more information on Ferrum, visit www.ferrum.edu.
