The Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre opens its 27th season with Neil Simon’s classic comedy, The Odd Couple. The free-spirited slob, Oscar Madison (R. Rex Stephenson), offers refuge for his highly sensitive neatnik friend, Felix (Michael Trochim). “These actors make their characters uniquely theirs and do not cheat the audience by doing Matthau or Lemmon impersonations” from a review of the 2002 production.

Justin Jewell returns to play Vinnie, whose wife constantly harasses him; Thomas Townsend re-creates the calculating Murray the Cop. Milton Rowan and John “Stretch” Beach join the cast as Speed and Roy. Jody D. Brown and Emily Rose Tucker will again create the British secretary sisters who Oscar hopes will brighten up the bachelors’ lives. It is all great fun with a cast of BRDT favorites.

Odd Couple opens April 18 and plays through April 22 at Ferrum College. Felix (Michael Trochim) and his roommate Oscar (R. Rex Stephenson) are having a domestic dispute over gravy.      Playwright Simon is America’s most produced author of theatre comedies and for good reason. He has always been able to take a serious situation, and by showing us our own foibles, we see the humor in it and in ourselves.

     The production, which is underwritten by the Franklin Community Bank, opens April 18 at 7:30 pm for a special Franklin County and Ferrum College appreciation performance. All tickets for this performance are $2. Then the company offers two matinee performances on April 19 and 20 (sorry the luncheons are sold out) and a Saturday evening performance with dinner on April 22.
