Ferrum College opened their new state-of-the-art, apartment style residence hall today with a faculty, staff and student assisted move-in. Greeting the students as they toured were welcome baskets, a central chandelier, Coke-donated glasses and a refrigerator already stocked with drinks. The new building serves the campus in a central location as another completed part of the FerrumPLUS construction and renovation project. With Beckham Hall renovated and this new residence hall open, the campus eagerly awaits the refurbished Franklin Hall Student Center and the new Skeens Alumni Conference Center and begins to look toward the renovation of Roberts Hall.

Ferrum College invites you to join us at 2:30pm of Friday, January 20th for the exciting move of our upperclassmen into a new classically styled, state-of-the-art residence hall space. Photos and video will be permitted as faculty, staff and students help these special new residents open the newest residence hall on campus in decades. Refreshments will be provided. The move-in is scheduled for at least two hours.

Other Ferrum PLUS projects include Franklin Hall, located at the heart of the Ferrum College campus across from this new residence hall. It will be transformed into a multi-level student and alumni center. The expanded facility will include the Earl G. “Bud” Skeens Alumni Conference Center, sports and Internet cafés, new offices and dramatic exterior enhancements. Many of these amenities are already open for students to enjoy as the building nears its Fall 2006 completion date.

In November one of the original campus buildings, Beckham Hall, was rededicated as the first completed Ferrum PLUS projects. Its interiors were renovated to provide classrooms with state of the art technology and faculty offices. Common areas were reconfigured to make more efficient and aesthetically pleasing use of the overall space. The exterior was preserved and polished to again make it a signature building on campus.

Roberts Hall, another original campus edifice, will also undergo renovation beginning this spring. The elegant and timeless Georgian-inspired exteriors of both buildings will be preserved.
Ferrum PLUS is funded primarily by one of the largest USDA loans of its kind ever awarded to an institution of higher education. The project will result in innovative and improved campus facilities and is designed to further the Ferrum College goal of providing each and every student with a successful and unique educational experience.
