During last week’s Board of Trustees meeting on the Ferrum College campus, friends and colleagues of Col. Earl G. “Bud” Skeens met for a private ceremony to dedicate a dynamic new conference center for college use. Former students, faculty and staff dedicated the new Earl G. “Bud” Skeens Alumni Conference Center November 3rd with remarks and a special reception in the stunning Blue Ridge Mountain Room. A plaque and portrait was also unveiled.

The artwork adorning the Blue Ridge Mountain room was also celebrated within the Skeens Alumni Conference Center during the Board of Trustees visit. Trustees, artists and special guests helped to welcome the Women Artists of Distinction Collection, displayed around the perimeter of the Blue Ridge Mountain Room. The artists include: Joan Bowman, Rachel Denham, Elizabeth Taylor Greer, Carolyn Hart, Nancy Hart, Susan Loy, Elizabeth Smith Miller, Freda Austin Nichols, Suzanne Davis Ross, Jane Duncan Stogner, Brenda Tatum, and Bev Thorton. The collection is open to the public to view except for special reservations of the room for events.

Ferrum proudly welcomed the largest new student enrollment in twenty years to its Ferrum, VA campus through the doors of its newly remodeled center. The Skeens Alumni Conference Center, renovated Franklin Hall Student Center, Beckham Hall and Roberts Hall, and new apartment-style residence hall Arthur Hall, exemplify a whirlwind 24 months of construction with the most dramatic set of campus improvements in fifty years. Future phases of development are being fast-tracked for consideration as enrollment continues to grow.
