Registration is now open for Ferrum College’s
Environmental Symposium November 8th-10th. The symposium, with a theme
of “Environmental Partnerships for a Sustainable Future,” celebrates
30 years of the second-oldest Environmental Science program in the
nation. The symposium events will take place primarily at Ferrum College
in Ferrum, VA with a special portion at the Roanoke Higher Education

Featured speakers include wildlife preservationist
and NASCAR driver Ward Burton; Ted Strong, Chair, Tribal and Cultural
Heritage Relations Committee, Heritage University; Dr. Edward Browell,
NASA atmospheric researcher (LIDAR) and the Honorable Paul S. Rosenblatt,
U.S. District Court Judge. More featured speakers, panelists and poster
sessions will be announced in the coming weeks. Activities will include:
Watershed research, poster sessions, exhibitors, workshops, field

Ferrum College has been a driving force in
many efforts in the region to retain the area’s natural resources
and beauty. Ferrum College also heads the Smith Mountain Lake, Philpott
Lake, and Claytor Lake Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Programs
to keep close watch on how lake traffic affects water quality and
fish. The Smith Mountain Lake Water Quality Monitoring Program is
celebrating its twentieth anniversary of Ferrum College volunteers
at the Symposium.
Ferrum College is celebrating 30th Anniversary
