Ferrum College is pleased to announce the
Pathways to Success academic program. In the midst of exciting renovations
and construction projects to the physical campus, Vice President and
Dean of the College Dr. Leslie Lambert has been working with Ferrum’s
faculty on similarly exciting developments in the college’s academic
architecture. In conjunction with this new initiative, Ferrum College
is also pleased to announce the appointment of the leaders for this
exciting new academic direction.
The Pathways to Success program aims to bring focus
to Ferrum College’s mission-derived motto – “Not self, but others.”
The Pathways program will build upon Ferrum’s focus on integrated
and interdisciplinary programs, tying student-learning experiences
in the liberal arts and sciences and with imbedded service learning
and experiential education components. Further, it will lead students
from these foundational learning experiences into their major programs
of study with the goal of helping students gain knowledge and understanding
and, in turn, applying skillfully their understanding as they make
a commitment to impact their communities, the nation and world.
Dr. Peter Crow, Williams Professor of Humanities,
will be the Director of the Pathways to Success program. Dr. Crow
was named the Outstanding Educator of the Year in 2003, a national
award given to professors in United Methodist-related schools who
have made an extraordinary impact on their students, peers, the institution,
church and community. Dr. Susan Mead, Assistant Professor of Sociology,
will assume responsibilities as the Director of Service Learning and
the Bonner Program. Professor Jennie West, a Social Work professor
at the College, has also been named as Program Consultant to the Bonner
Program.
Two additional programs, the Assessment of
Student Learning Program and the IDEAL (Instructional Design to Engage
All Learners) program in the college’s Center for Instructional Design
and Technology will provide important institutional support for the
Pathways program as these programs will focus on enhancing student
learning and faculty development. Dr. Delia Heck, Assistant Professor
of Business has been named the Director of Assessment and Dr. Christine
Stinson, Associate Professor of Business and Accounting has been named
the Director of the IDEAL program.
