April 4 and 5, 2005, Ferrum College will hold its eighth annual Women’s
Leadership Conference on the Ferrum College campus. The keynote speaker
will be former Virginia Attorney General Mary Sue Terry. The theme of
this year’s conference is “Examining our Assumptions about Gender.”
The conference always features an alumna
or alumnus speaker and has selected two 1994 Ferrum graduates to speak
this year: Jon Morris, executive director of STEP, Inc., and Joyce Moran,
executive officer of Children’s Advocacy Programs (CAPS) of the Blue
Ridge. Men and women are welcome to attend the free conference. Lunch
will be available for purchase.
The Women’s Leadership Conference is
an annual event featuring speakers, panels, and entertainment and focused
on issues of leadership, especially as they pertain to women. This year
sessions will include topics such as workplace issues, cultural issues
and assumptions about gender roles .
“We are especially proud of the fact
that the conference provides an opportunity for residents of the community
to interact with members of the college community and to share our experiences
and viewpoints,” said Dr. Lana Whited, the conference coordinator and
a member of the college’s English faculty..
The Women’s Leadership Conference Planning
