| The
Second Annual Southwest Virginia Antique and Power Festival will be
held in Rocky Mount, VA the weekend of June 17-19, 2005. This Franklin
County based festival will take place in the Franklin County Recreation
Park on Sontag Rd. (Route 619).
The Southwest Virginia Antique and Power Festival
will feature a host of unique demonstrations of antique farm vehicles,
farm tools and early machinery. All three days will feature examples
of corn grinding, rock crushing and two demonstrations of thrashing
and hand-bailing.
Exhibitors with antique tractors and farm equipment,
all willing to take the time to explain them with working demonstrations,
will be present through the entire festival The event is truly a unique
educational opportunity for all who attend.
On Saturday and Sunday there will be a tractor
pull starting at 11:00am each day with a special Sunday Lawn Mower Pull
at 1:00 p.m.
Other activities include a flea market of antique
engines, tractors and farm related items. There will be an auction on
Saturday starting at noon of antique engines, tractors farm tools, machinery
and other farm-related items. Auction proceeds benefit future iterations
of the festival.
Each afternoon there will be
a parade on the grounds of antique tractors-
the largest ever held in Franklin County.
A special performance by the Jack Tale Players will take place on Saturday
and Sunday.
A number of local churches, civil groups and private individuals will
have food and drinks for sale.
Music at the festival will feature a Sunday morning performance by the
Gospel Travelers.
