Students at Ferrum College are making a special effort to restock and aid the St. James Center in Ferrum through a massive coordinated drive. The effort is being organized as a major project between several clubs, organizations, athletic teams and events. On October 31st Ferrum College students (student athletes, clubs, and organizations) collected over 2,100 cans. Last year’s record of 2,000 cans has been broken and the project’s goal for this year is 3,000 items. As a part of the USA South Athletic Conference project Ferrum will continue to collect items until November 17th.

Fans following Ferrum’s undefeated football season are encouraged to bring items with them to the November 12th home game against Christopher Newport University. Student athletes and volunteers will be collecting items and money in support of the St. James Center at the gates.

Items Franklin County's St. James center needs in particular (no homemade products): any canned goods and non-perishables; peanut butter; jelly; diapers; and canned meat.

“Many people in Franklin County rely on the St. James Center for help during the year and we hope to do our part in helping members our community too. The supplies we collect really help keep the shelves stocked a little longer and make the dollars needed to help others in our community stretch a little further,” said co-organizer, Women’s Softball Coach and Senior Woman Administrator Vickie Van Kleeck.

For more information contact co-organizer Susie Crow at (540) 365-4265.
