High
school students who visit four Virginia private colleges during the
eighth annual Virginia Private College Week (July 26-31) will receive
application fee waivers redeemable at any three private colleges. With
application fees ranging from $15 to $50, students could save as much
as $100.
Governor Mark Warner has issued a proclamation
recognizing July 26-31, 2004 as "Private College Week” in the Commonwealth
of Virginia. More than 2,000 students and families participated in Private
College Week 2003.
"We hope that students and their families will
participate and learn about the wonderful opportunities available at
Virginia private colleges," said Robert Lambeth, president of the
Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia (CICV). "Our colleges
are affordable, offering an academic community where teaching comes
first and students receive personal attention."
Often described as "one-stop shopping,"
Private College Week tours include informational sessions on how to
apply for admission and financial aid.
During Virginia Private College Week (PCW),
the 24 members of the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia (CICV)
host two daily Open House programs for prospective students and their
families. The program includes campus tours, financial aid and admissions
workshops, and curriculum/program overviews. On Monday-Friday (July
26-30), there will be a morning (9am) and afternoon (2pm) session. On
Saturday (July 31), there will be a morning (9am) session only.
The CICV was instrumental in starting
the state's Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG) program. All full-time undergraduate
students from Virginia attending a CICV institution in 2004-2005 will
be eligible to receive a TAG award from the Commonwealth of Virginia
of approximately $2,500.
