UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA INSTRUCTOR, GRAPHIC DESIGNER TO PRESENT AT FERRUM

     Ferrum College will host the talent of Maria Rogal, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at the University of Florida, for a gallery exhibition, lecture and reception. On Monday, October 11, 10-11:00 am a lecture will be given by Rogal in the Stanley Library in the Library Annex Room 101. Following the lecture a reception will be held from 11am – 12:30 pm in the E. Taylor Greer Gallery at Ferrum. The exhibition will continue until November 11.   Admission to the lecture and reception is free to the public. The art exhibit is free to the public and is open during Stanley Library hours. Donations of non-perishable food to benefit the St. James Community Center Food Bank are welcome.
        
     Maria Rogal studied political science and history at Villanova University, PA where she received her B.A. degree, and worked in the international development field before beginning her career in graphic design. In 1995 she received her M.F.A. in Design and Visual Communication from Virginia Commonwealth University where her research focus was on design and social responsibility. From 1997-2000 she was on the faculty at the University of Florida where she taught courses in graphic design and was focused on the study of history, theory, and the intersection of design and culture. During the 2000-2001 academic year she worked as a senior designer at Sapient where she was involved with the research, conceptualization and design of large-scale web-based projects. She is currently teaching full time in the graphic design program at the University of Florida.
