alumni and the community are invited to the College’s annual Homecoming
events, October 8-9, 2004. The Panther Pride; The spirit of ‘74 reunion
weekend will include athletic events, meals, and receptions. The Ferrum
College Sports Hall of Fame will be inducting five outstanding alumni:
Mr. Joseph Philpott, Jr., ’64, Mr. Philip Elmassian, ’71, Mr. Albert
Latimer, ‘78, Mr. James Sood, ‘89, and Mrs. Sarah Quesenberry Wagner,
‘94.
The weekend begins with the 13th Annual
Corron Classic Golf Tournament at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8, at
the Westlake Golf and Country Club on Smith Mountain Lake. The cost
is $75 per person with prizes, complimentary gift, and hors d’oeuvres.
Reservations are required through the Alumni and Family Services Office.
A women’s tennis match will also be held at 5:30 p.m. and is free to
the public. Later, The Women’s Alumni Basketball Game will start at
7:00 p.m. and will welcome all former basketball players to join this
year’s team in a game. Alumni interested in playing should contact Coach
Donna Doonan at (540) 365-4495 to learn more.
Beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday October
9th, former tennis players are invited to play against this year’s tennis
team in an alumni tennis tournament. Tennis Coach Gary Holden may register
participants at (540) 365-4306. The Sports Hall of Fame Luncheon and
Induction is at 11:30 a.m. in the Panther’s Den. Meal purchases require
reservations. The home football game begins at 2:00 p.m. as the Panthers
take on Guilford College. The cost is adults-$5.00 and children-$3.00.
A Reunion Years Reception, for the classes of 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989,
1994, 1999, and 2004, will reunite Panthers between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00
p.m., at Ippy’s Restaurant in Rocky Mount. Reservations are required
for the free event.
Joanna Coleman, Alumni Office Director,
states, “We are so excited about Homecoming! We have a fun filled weekend
planned with the Corron Classic Panther Open Golf Tournament, the Sports
Hall of Fame Class of 2004 induction, a reunion of the 1974 National
Championship Football Team, class reunions, a kids' tent for our Little
Panthers, numerous events for our alumni athletes, and much more! The
Student Government Association will sponsor Homecoming booths in front
of the stadium. Have your face painted and cheer on the Panthers in
the football
game against Guilford College!”
