On April 3, 2004, Ferrum College will hold the annual Women's Leadership Conference. This year's conference bears an international theme in conjunction with International Week and Model UN Day held the week before it. Leslie Wilkinson will be the featured speaker for the conference. Wilkinson, who was born in England, has worked for the UN as a senior political analyst. In the late 1990's, Wilkinson was part of a 3-person team posted in Baghdad following the Gulf War; the goal of the assignment was to help supervise voting in Nambia. Wilkinson is fluent in French and has studied several other languages. Originally from Austria, Wilkinson currently resides in New York. Some of the sessions planned for the conference include: international women writers, careers in international crime, cultural sensitivity and women's rights, international business, living in other cultures, and the education of women in other cultures. There will be an alumni speaker, not yet named, as well as presentations from students throughout the Ferrum College community. For more information on the conference, contact Leslie Holden at (540) 365-4460. Holden can be reached by email at lholden@ferrum.edu . Ferrum College is a four-year, private, co-educational, liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Ferrum offers a choice of nationally recognized bachelor’s degree programs at a cost well below the national average for private colleges. For more information on Ferrum, visit www.ferrum.edu. |
