On Saturday, March 6, 2004, the National Association of Social Workers awarded Bachelor of Social Work Student of the Year to Ferrum College senior Tiffany Ray. Ray was chosen among
seven other schools in the state of Virginia. Nominations came from
Martha Haley-Bowling and Jennie West. Ray is the first student at Ferrum
College to have won this award. |

| Ray graduated in 1999 from World Harvest Bible College in Columbus, Oh. She then moved to Kansas to serve as a youth minister for two years before deciding to return to college to work on her social work degree. Ray entered Ferrum College’s Social Work program in the fall of 2001. She will graduate in May of 2004 with a Bachelor’s of Social Work. She has been accepted to Virginia Commonwealth University’s Advanced Standing program in the School of Social Work. “I am so proud of Tiffany and all of her accomplishments as a student and to win this award is quite an honor. Tiffany is a advocate for social and economic justice and civil rights. She will be an asset to the Social Work field whether it is lobbying for public policy or in the clinical setting. She will be a very gifted social worker. She is an asset to this learning institution,” said Martha Haley-Bowling, Field Coordinator Social Work Program. For more information contact
