Ferrum College’s Dean of Students,
Dave Newcombe, has been elected President-Elect of the Virginia Association
of Student Personnel Administrators (VASPA). Newcombe has been part of this association for 18 years. “It is a lot of fun and can be a stress release for some folks. I enjoy being part of the group because of new relationships formed and getting to grow as a professional,” said Newcombe. Newcombe was elected in November 2003, to the position of President-Elect. He will have this position for one year. He will then be the president for a year, and following that Newcombe will be the past-president for one year. As President-Elect he has to participate in events, attend three meetings to plan the conference, attend conferences, observe how the association is ran, and run meetings if the president is absent. As President, he will be in charge of the association. As Past-President, he will run the conference. Newcombe stated “It’s pretty much an honor to be elected by your peers and colleagues at other Virginia institutions of higher learning. I feel humbled.” Ferrum College is a four-year, private,
