The Reverend Dr. Martin E. Marty, internationally renowned theologian will speak at Ferrum College on Wednesday, March 31. Dr. Marty will be the inaugural lecturer of the Wasena F. “Buddy” Wright, Jr. Christian Ministry Lecture Series. The lecture series will be formally dedicated at 7:00p.m. in Vaughn Chapel, followed by an address from Dr. Marty entitled “When Faiths Collide.” A reception will follow. Dr. Marty has received over 70 honorary doctorates and numerous awards including the National Humanities Medal , the Medal of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences , the University of Chicago Alumni Medal , the Distinguished Service Medal of the Association of Theological Schools and Illinois' top honor, the Order of Lincoln Medallion . Dr. Marty is the author of over 50 books including Righteous Empire , winner of the National Book Award. |

The Reverend Dr. Wasena F. “Buddy” Wright, Jr. was a Ferrum alum ('60) and a member of the Board of Trustees from 1985-1993 and again from 1997 until his death. He was a recipient of Ferrum College's highest alumni honor, the Beckham Medallion in May, 1999. Rev. Wright was a former senior pastor of Annandale United Methodist Church and most recently served as Council Director for the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church until his death in July of 2003.
