The Ambassador of Norway to the United States, Knut Vollebaek, will be a guest speaker at Ferrum College's Annual Model United Nations Day on Saturday, March 27. Ambassador Vollebaek will speak on the state of the United Nations at a reception in the Panther's Den at 3pm. The reception and remarks are open to the public.

Knut Vollebaek, the Ambassador of Norway to the United States since 2001, has extensive background in world affairs and experience with the United Nations. He has served Norway's embassies in India, Spain, Zimbabwe and Costa Rica as well as serving as a Norwegian Delegate to the UN General Assemblies and later as Norway's Minister of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Vollebaek has held a number of positions in the United Nations including Deputy Co-Chairman of the UN in the International Conference on Former Yugoslavia (UN/EU), Rapporteur to the Anti-Apartheid Committee of ILO, Geneva, Organizer of the SARRED Conference (Southern Africa Refugees, Returnees and Displaced Persons Conference), Governor of the Inter-American Development Bank, Asian Development Bank and African Development Bank and Norway's Representative to the International Conference on Central American Refugees (CIREFCA). Ambassador Vollebaek received a Master of Science in Economics from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration and has studied at the University of Oslo, University of California, the l'Institut Catholique de Paris, and the Universidad Complutense. He holds honorary doctorate degrees from St. Olaf College and Concordia College in Minnesota.
