The Blue Ridge Farm Museum, Ferrum College's re-created 1800 German-American home and farmstead, opens for the summer season on Saturday, May 17. Walk-in visitors may tour on Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. through mid-August. Group tours are available any day by prior reservation through October. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for children and senior citizens. Costumed interpreters perform the daily household and farm chores of the era from open hearth cooking to candle making to oxen driving. Through special participatory programs, visitors can don Institute costumes and take part in craft and farm activities. Historic living quarters show the life and culture of people of the region 200 years ago. In the gardens and surrounding farm buildings, heirloom vegetables and authentic breeds of oxen, sheep, horses, pigs, and chickens represent food and economic resources of the 1800 Blue Ridge region. The Farm Museum opened in 1979. It is a component of Ferrum College’s Blue Ridge Institute and Farm Museum. For more information, please call (540) 365-4416 or visit www.blueridgeinstitute.org. Ferrum College is a four-year, private, co-educational, liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
