Strobos lived with her mother in Amsterdam during the Holocaust. Although she was not Jewish, she put her life in danger by assisting in the hiding of Jews. Her house was a transit station where Jews could stay until the Strobos family found refuge for them in other homes. In addition to hiding Jews, Strobos also made false passports, provided them with food ration coupons, and served as a link between separated family members. All Strobos’ actions during the Holocaust were punishable by death, but she continued to help the Jewish people from 1940 until Holland was liberated in 1945. The event is free and open to the public. For more information about the speaker or the Holocaust program at Ferrum, contact Dr. Marcia Horn at (540) 365-4328. Ferrum College is a four-year, private, co-educational, liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. For more information on Ferrum, visit www.ferrum.edu. # # # |
