Big Weekend For Baseball and Ferrum
With two MLB Ferrum alums and many more supporters in attendance, former baseball players and families honor Coach Abe Naff on Saturday night for his 500 career wins. The next night two-time MLB All-Star Billy Wagner is inducted into the Roanoke-Salem Baseball Hall of Fame.

Roanoke-Salem Baseball Hall of Fame Inducts Billy Wagner

An emotional Billy Wagner is inducted into the Salem-Roanoke Baseball Hall of Fame Sunday, February 9, 2003, in front of a crowd that included former Major League Baseball players and staff, Congressmen, legends in Roanoke and Salem baseball history, college representatives, and those already members of the hall (including Ferrum Baseball Coach Abe Naff).

Other inductees included: former MLB player Leo Burke, former Salem Pirate Doug Nelson, Roanoke Red Sox/Salem Pirates General Manager Morris Cregger (accepted by his son) and former Glenvar High School baseball coach Larry Wood.

Guest speaker and former New York Yankee Bill "Moose" Skowron entertained the crowd with stories of his successes (numerous World Series appearances, including a series winning hit and grand slam) and his teammates (Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford and more).

Billy and "Moose" signed autographs after the ceremony for those attending the dinner.
