FERRUM STUDENT SELECTED TO STUDY PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

          Ferrum College honors student Wilson Paine '07 has been accepted to the Washington Center Scholars Program for study of the 2004 Presidential Election by the Appalachian College Association.  

         Paine will attend several special programs including a two-week seminar in Washington, DC, January 4-16, 2004 consisting of two programs: “In Pursuit of the Presidency” and “Politics and the Media.”   Paine will then attend a two week seminar at the Democratic National Convention in Boston, MA, July 18-30, 2004 followed by another two week seminar at the Republican National Convention in New York, NY, August 22-September 3, 2004.   The final component will be a ten-day seminar in Washington, DC after the election to correspond with the Presidential Inauguration.

           “ Wilson is a bright, enthusiastic young man who is very interested in politics and public policy.   This is a terrific opportunity for him, and I am confident that he will represent Ferrum with distinction." Dr. Lana Whited, Professor of English and Journalism said.

         The award provides renumeration for the multi-part seminar study in Washington, DC, Boston and New York including travel, housing and food.
