Ferrum College announces the creation of the Wasena F. "Buddy" Wright, Jr., Christian Ministry Lecture Series. This series will take place every other year on the Ferrum College campus. The first Wright Lecturer is The Rev. Dr. Martin E. Marty and is set for Wednesday, March 31, 2004. Clergy and other church leaders and lay people representing every denomination are invited to attend a luncheon and discussion with Marty from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The discussion will center around his newest book "Martin Luther" to be released in January 2004. Luncheon reservations will be limited to the first 150 reservations, and the cost for the meal is $7 per person. At 7:00 p.m. there will be a formal dedication of the Wasena F. "Buddy" Wright, Jr., Christian Ministry Lecture Series in Vaughn Chapel followed by an address from Marty. A reception will follow the evening lecture. The new lecture series honors the life of the Rev. Dr. Wasena F. “Buddy” Wright, Jr., a 1960 graduate of Ferrum Junior College. Wright served the United Methodist Church in many forms over 40 years of ministry, including his final role as the Council Director for the Virginia Conference. He also served several terms as a trustee of the College's Board, including sitting on the Executive Committee, and was a 1999 recipient of Ferrum's highest alumni award, the Benjamin M. Beckham Medallion. Ferrum College is a four-year, private, co-educational, liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
