The Honorable Joan Ziglar '82 is this year's Arthur S. Owens Lecture Series speaker at Ferrum College. Zeigler will give the address “Things Money Can't Buy” on Tuesday, December 2 nd , at 7:30 p.m. in Grousbeck Music Center on the College campus. Ziglar is currently the Commonwealth's Attorney for the city of Martinsville. After receiving her Masters in Public Administration at Virginia Commonwealth University and Juris Doctorate from William and Mary, Ziglar served her community in the public defender's office. A 1982 graduate of Ferrum College, the Honorable Joan Ziglar also received the Arthur S. Owens Leadership Award. In 2002 she was honored with a Distinguished Alumni Award. She currently serves as a member of the Ferrum College Board of Trustees and is a member of the Executive Committee. The Arthur S. Owens Lecture Series was established in 1983 to provide outstanding lectures at Ferrum College in the fields of business and public administration. Owens, who was born in Richmond in 1900, served Ferrum College from 1967 until his death in 1982, as Assistant to the President and Distinguished Lecturer. In addition to the Lecture Series, Ferrum College presents the Arthur S. Owens Leadership Award each year to a senior who demonstrates character, honor, leadership and initiative. In 1973, the merit-based Arthur S. Owens Scholarship Fund was established at Ferrum to provide financial assistance to deserving Ferrum students. Ferrum College is a four-year, private, co-educational, liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
