| Mushko will read from The Girl Who Raced Mules & Other Stories, a collection of her award-winning short stories, some of which were originally published in Blue Ridge Traditions, Virginia Adversaria, and THEM. Fitzgerald will read from Postcards from the Dock, a collection of her essays, many of which were published in herSmith Mountain Eagle column, ³Out of Bounds.² Both books were published in 2003 by Infinity Publishing of Haverford, Pennsylvania. |

Mushko lives on a farm in Penhook; Fitzgerald lives on the lake in Huddleston. Mushko, a retired Roanoke City Public school teacher, now teaches English at Ferrum College. Fitzgerald, who previously taught at George Mason University, now travels the world and writes about the places she visits. Both Mushko and Fitzgerald have written other books. Mushko published Patches on the Same Quilt and Peevish Advice in 2001; Fitzgerald published Also Present in 2002. Both are members of the Lake Writers, a Smith Mountain Arts Council writers¹ group which meets twice a month at the Moneta Branch Library. Both are also members of the Virginia Writers Club. Becky organized a Franklin County Young Writers Club (for middle and high school students) in August. They are the official writers' club of the Franklin County Public Library and are also affiliated with the Young Virginia Writers Club. | |
