HOMECOMING AT FERRUM COLLEGE

     Ferrum alumni and the community are invited to the College’s annual Homecoming events, October 3-4, 2003. The reunion weekend will include athletic events, new facility dedications, and meals and receptions.

     The weekend begins with the 12th Annual Corron Classic Golf Tournament at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3, at the Westlake Golf and Country Club on Smith Mountain Lake. The cost is $75 per person with prizes, complimentary gift, and lunch included. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. Reservations are required.

     A dedication ceremony for the Classroom Technology Center will officially open the 9,000 addition to Stanley Library. The multimedia center features leading edge classrooms, an extension of the E. Taylor Greer Art Gallery, and student common areas. The ceremony is at 2:00 p.m.

     A women’s soccer match will also be held at 2 p.m. and is free to the public.

     The Women’s Alumni Basketball Game at 7:00 p.m. will welcome all former basketball players to join this year’s team in a game. Alumni interested in playing should contact Coach Donna Doonan at (540) 365-4495 to learn more.

     On Saturday, at 9:30 a.m., a dedication service for the Earl G. Skeens, Jr., Tennis Complex will reveal tennis facilities and the restored Burrows Tennis Courts. The complex is named in memory of the late Professor Skeens. New at the nets are a pavilion, night lighting, and additional courts.

     At 10:00 a.m., former tennis players are invited to play against this year’s tennis team in a alumni tennis tournament. Tennis Coach Gary Holden may register participants at (540) 365-4480.

     The Homecoming Lunch is at 11:30 a.m. near Adams Field. Meal purchases require reservations.

     The home football game begins at 1:00 p.m. as the Panthers take on Averett University this year. The cost is adults-$5.00 and children-$3.00.
There will be a men’s soccer game at 2:00 p.m.

     A Reunion Years Reception, for the classes of 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, and 1998, will reunite Panthers between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., at Ippy’s Restaurant in Rocky Mount. Reservations are required for the free event.
