His
featured first book, entitled How I Learned to Snap, is the true story
of his life’s challenges growing up in a conservative town, with
traditional parents, but still finding love and acceptance by many of
his family members and friends.
How I Learned to Snap has garnered national attention, named an American Library Association Honor Book and a Lambda Literary Award finalist. |
Read uses his talents as a writer, storyteller, and social activist to bring a message of hope and understanding. Read’s visit is sponsored by the Bonner Enrichment Fund, Spectrum, and the Department of Social Work and Sociology at Ferrum College. Ferrum College is a four-year, private, co-educational, liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Ferrum offers a choice of nationally recognized bachelors degree programs at a cost well below the national average for private colleges.
