Are evolution and Christianity in conflict? Can one believe evolution as scientific
fact and still believe in God? John
Haught, professor of theology at Georgetown University, will raise these
questions at Ferrum College on Wednesday, October 30, at 7:30 pm in Garber Hall
106. |

Haught's lecture, "Evolution and the Question of God," will delve into the struggle between science and religion, a contentious topic for many educators, parents, and church leaders. The public is invited to attend the lecture. Haught contends that Darwin challenges religious trust in a providential God who purposefully creates, influences and eternally cares for the world.Haught will also address these theological questions: In what sense, after Darwin, might humankind still trust in divine providence, if at all? Is it perhaps possible that evolutionary portraits of life may open up fresh ways of thinking about God and cosmic purpose? After Darwin, does a plausible understanding of God that is both consistent with traditional Judeo/Christian belief and adequate to the reality of evolution exist? |
