Dr. Powell is Assistant Professor of Chemstry and Physics. He has served Ferrum College since 2001.
His teaching areas include general, inorganic, instrumental, and physical chemistry as well as introductory physics and physical science and forensic science. His research interests involve the use of early transition metal oxides (polyoxometalates) in various applications spanning from chemical sensors and catalysis to molecular computing.
Dr. Powell is also Chair-Elect of the Virginia Blue Ridge Local Section of the American Chemical Society and Science Judge for Franklin County High School's SCAEL (Scholastic Competition for Academic Excellence League) competition. His passion is to make science accessible to anyone who becomes interested in it, regardless of their background.
