    Mina Ayob
    From Afghanistan
The Director of International Programs, Professor Saari, proposed granting a full scholarship for four years to a female Afghan student in 2001. The college approved her proposal and Ayob was chosen to come to Ferrum College.
How did Ferrum find her? Ferrum Professor Wayne Bowman had an Afghan/American friend whose journalist brother was planning to visit Afghanistan after 9/11.
Mr. Tamim Ansary agreed to seek a candidate for the scholarship while he was in Afghanistan. He later recalled that Ayob was extremely nervous when he interviewed her, but he was convinced that she could meet the challenge.
She had studied English secretly for two years under the Taliban regime. Many people, from campus and from off campus, have helped her with improving her language skills and adjusting to the American culture.

Her major is Pre-Professional science and Ayob is targeted to graduate in 2006. Her dream is to be a doctor, so that she can help her people.
