Perkins Loan Administrator

Ferrum College is accepting applications for the position of Perkins Loan Administrator.  This position is responsible for the collection of Perkins Loans and is responsible for the compliance of Federal guidelines governing those collection efforts.  The position requires the application, concepts, practices, terminology and knowledge of accounting and collection procedures.  Individual must monitor collection of Perkins Loans and insure number of defaulted loans is within acceptable level.  Perkins Loan Administrator will also assist with collection of current and former student receivables.

Candidates should possess the following qualifications:  college coursework in business and computer science; three to five years experience in college Business Office; accounting and collection experience; proficient in Microsoft Office applications and AS/400 including Query; ability to communicate well with students, parents, faculty and staff both verbally and in writing; good organizational skills and ability to think and learn independently.  Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.

The position reports to the Assistant Controller.

Residence Hall Educator

Ferrum College is searching for a Residence Hall Educator. This exciting, self-starting person will live-in, be a professional staff member, will be responsible for a residence hall housing area approximately 400 students, and supervising 7 undergraduate student staff members.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: recruitment, programming, education, Residence Hall Association, supervision of student staff, review of judicial cases in area, crisis response, and on call duties. Night and weekend work is expected. Qualified candidates (minimum) should possess a bachelor’s degree, previous residence life experience, and a desire to work with college students. A master’s degree is preferred. This is a 10 month position.

Start date will be near January, 4, 2010. Compensation is competitive and includes: salary, on-campus 1 bedroom apartment, and full meal plan when the dining hall is open.

Technology Training and Support Specialist

Ferrum College is accepting applications for the position of Technology Training and Support Specialist.  Reporting to the Director of Administrative Computing, the Technology Training and Support Specialist is responsible for day-to-day support of the technology needs of nonacademic staff and administrators at Ferrum College.  The successful candidate will work from the Help Desk and will be responsible for troubleshooting, hardware repair and upgrades, software updates and restoration, and delivering one-on-one and group training to nonacademic staff on campus software and hardware, including technology security.

Skills and qualifications are as follows:  Must have significant experience dealing with end-user technology support and preventive maintenance.  Specific required skills include hardware maintenance and troubleshooting (Macintosh and PC), software OS installation and configuration (Macintosh and PC), software installation and troubleshooting, network troubleshooting (especially TCP/IP), and familiarity with system replication software (e.g., Norton Ghost).  Must have documented ability to work independently, excellent interpersonal skills, and strong written and oral communication skills.  Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.  A+ certification required; Network+ certification preferred.  Review of applications will begin immediately.  Applications accepted until position is filled.

Director of Health Promotion

Responsibilities include development and implementation of a campus-wide wellness program, providing resources to students, collaboration with campus entities to create a seamless wellness experience for students, representing the College and Health Promotion at campus programs such as freshman orientation, maintenance of student health histories and immunizations, and service as an advisor to the President’s Administrative Council in health-related matters. Director of Instructional Design & Technology

Ferrum College is seeking an experienced individual to join our Academic Support Division.  Reporting to the Dean of Information and Learning Management, the Director of Instructional Design and Technology will work with faculty in the conceptualization, development and delivery of well-designed, pedagogically sound technology applications to enhance faculty development in the use of instructional design methodologies to improve teaching and the achievement of student learning outcomes.  Ferrum College uses the ANGEL Learning Management System for supporting classroom teaching, College committees, student organizations, student ePortfolios, Library reserves, and institutional assessment (see http://www.angellearning.com/community/documents/Ferrum_College_Case_Study_1208.pdf). 

The Director is responsible for training and supporting faculty and staff in using ANGEL and other tools of instructional technology.  The Director will work closely with all academic and administrative departments promoting and facilitating across-campus collaboration in developing effective and innovative techniques to enhance student learning.  The Director will also teach up to two courses per semester in the area of his or her expertise.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • » Collaboratively design and lead faculty development programs in teaching and learning technology with the Provost’s Office staff and School Deans.  Develop face to face training and self-instructional materials for faculty and student use.
  • » Plan, lead and assess workshops to train faculty and staff in basic and advanced use of ANGEL Learning Management System for both traditional and online courses.
  • » Administer the College’s ANGEL system including course creation, faculty enrollment, student enrollment, course evaluations, campus groups, and prompt responses to requests for assistance.
  • » Administer ePortfolio including maintaining campus-wide achievement exercises, user data and group membership. 
  • » Manage the College’s ANGEL ePortfolio initiative including leading faculty workshops on ePortfolio.
  • » Support student use of technology in their academic assignments and presentations.
  • » Participate in regional, national organizations, and research to stay current with trends and best practices in eLearning.
  • » Work with Director of Assessment & Institutional Research (DAIR) to maintain up-to-date materials and assessment tools for College and Programs in LMS
  • » Work with DAIR to design and deliver training regarding the use of ANGEL LMS and ePortfolio for assessment purposes.
  • » Work with DAIR to coordinate institutional assessment cycles.
  • » Lead campus initiatives related to online delivery of instruction.
  • » Other duties as requested

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:  The successful candidate will meet all of the following requirements:

  • » Minimum Master’s degree in a discipline appropriate for Ferrum College’s curriculum.
  • » PhD/EdD or five years experience in higher education dealing with instructional design and technology, with PhD/EdD preferred.
  • » Significant experience with at least one Learning Management System (LMS) and the ability to demonstrate technical and pedagogical capacity with ANGEL.  Experience with Angel LMS highly desirable.
  • » Strong written and oral communication skills.  Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • » Experience providing training and support for a course management system with faculty. 
  • » Excellent problem solving skills. 
  • » Ability to demonstrate advanced, current knowledge of pertinent applications and technologies including web authoring, e-portfolio management, course management systems, interactive web-based tutorials, digitization, distance education technology, and standard desktop and presentation applications.
  • » Experience applying theories of learning to technologies of teaching and learning methodologies such as digital video production, digital audio production, and authoring programs.
  • » Ability to demonstrate knowledge of learning styles, research methods, evaluation, curriculum from the perspective of effective instruction for traditional and non-traditional learners across varying disciplines.
  • » Understanding of models of teaching/learning and how to work with professors in traditional and non-traditional settings.
  • » Ability to design, implement and assess an effective workshop.
  • » Self-starter and high organization skills.  Strong time management skills and responsive to needs/requests.
  • » Teaching, training, project management, supervisory and assessment experience are also preferred qualifications.

Housekeeper
