Biology
Instructor: Non-Tenure - Track
Position will be filled by a broadly-trained biologist with a graduate degree in biology. Teaching responsibilities include introductory biology, and may include a science course for non-majors and upper-level undergraduate courses in the field of specialization. The instructor may also teach in the Gateway Program, will serve on faculty committees, and provide academic counseling for undergraduate students. Continuing professional development is supported and expected.
Criminal Justice
Assistant Professor: Tenure - Track
Applicants must have completed a doctoral program in criminology, criminal justice, or related field and have demonstrated excellence in teaching, advising and scholarly research. The successful candidate will have the ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning and must be adaptable to a liberal arts and interdisciplinary curriculum. A commitment to high quality teaching, an active research agenda, and dedication to service to the College, the profession, and the community are desirable. Special consideration will be given to those candidates with experience and/or specialization in police management, criminal investigations and crime prevention.
English
Coordinator of Journalism Program – Assistant Professor: Tenure - Track
Ph.D. required, with graduate coursework in English, and journalism or communication, and with teaching or experience in both print and broadcast journalism. Evidence of teaching excellence required. Duties will include teaching freshman composition, the journalism practicum, and upper-level journalism courses; coordinating the journalism program; advising the student newspaper, and providing leadership in expanding the journalism program to include multimedia and coordination with the art program’s graphic design major. The successful candidate will provide evidence of his or her commitment to professional development and scholarship.
Environmental Science
Visiting Professor: Sabbatical Replacement
The position is to be filled by an environmental scientist with a strong background in forestry and a Ph.D. in the field. Teaching responsibilities could include Forest Science and Management, Conservation Biology, Fundamentals of Ecology, Natural Resource Conservation and other courses in Environmental Science as needed by the School.
Mathematics
Assistant Professor: Tenure - Track
PhD in mathematics or statistics required. The position includes teaching undergraduate mathematics courses, as well as other courses consistent with candidate’s expertise. Candidates must be knowledgeable in innovative teaching techniques and be adaptable to a broad range of student abilities and learning styles. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education and enjoy teaching and working closely with students. Other responsibilities include course development, student advising and ongoing scholarship and professional development. A commitment to ongoing scholarship is expected.
French and/or Italian
Adjunct Instructor
The School of Arts and Humanities at Ferrum College seeks an Adjunct Instructor to teach introductory French or Italian during spring term 2009 (Jan-May). M.A. required, Ph.D. and experience preferred.
