College Rental Housing:
House Guidelines & Forms
Eligibility:
Full-time employees are eligible to request college-owned housing.
Students are not eligible to rent College-owned houses.
Request for College Owned Housing:
To request to be placed on the waiting list for College-owned apartments,
you must complete a "Request for College-owned Housing" form
and submit to the Business Office, Room 203. Be sure to complete all
requested information.
Request forms will be placed on the waiting list in order of when received.
If a house becomes available and your name is next on the waiting list,
you will be contacted. At that time, you can pickup keys to look at
the house to determine if you wish to rent it.
Renting a House:
If you rent a house, you are required to:

sign a lease, (tenant can have roommates, but the house will only
be leased under one person's name)
- transfer
the water & sewage billing account to your name,
- transfer
the electric billing (AEP) account to your name, and
- pay
a security deposit equivalent to one month's rent (cash, check, or
charge).
Paying
Rent:
The employee's rent for the house is paid via payroll deduction for
the current month's rent.
House Rules:
- Tenants
are responsible for disposing of their own trash. Do not leave trash
or trash bags outside of the house.
- Tenants
are responsible for all utilities.
- Tenants
in apartments without mailboxes are responsible for obtaining a post
office box at the Ferrum U.S. Post Office. The College Post Office
is not to be used as a source for delivery of PERSONAL mail.
- Tenants
are responsible for the total cost of any damage to the house.
- Tenants
must request permission to install additional cable or telephone jacks
in a house. Contact the Business Office at X 4233.
- Repairs
that need attention should be communicated directly to the Physical
Plant Office at X 4250.
Tenants are responsible for obtaining renter's insurance on personal
property. The College is not responsible for damage to or loss of
personal property during the term of the lease.
- Tenants
found to be in violation of state and federal laws and/or College
policies may be required to vacate a house.
- Tenants must
give 60 days written notice of plans to vacate college-owned housing.
