College Rental Housing:
Apartment Guidelines & Forms
Eligibility:
Full-time employees are eligible to request College-owned housing.
If in July of any given year there is an excess of housing, part-time
adjunct faculty may request rental housing for a semester or on a 10
to 11 month arrangement.
Full-time students with proof of approval to move off-campus and payment
of confirmation deposit are eligible to request College-owned housing.
Request for College-owned Housing:
To request to be placed on the waiting list for College-owned apartments,
you must complete a "Request for College-owned Housing" form
and submit to the Business Office, Room 203. Be sure to complete all
requested information.
If you are a student, you must submit a copy of the letter from Residence
Education granting approval to live off-campus and proof of payment
of your confirmation deposit. Request forms will not be accepted from
students without those items attached.

For information on paying your confirmation deposit, please contact
Student Accounts at X4239.
Request forms will be placed on the waiting list in order of when received.
If an apartment becomes available and your name is next on the waiting
list, you will be contacted. At that time, you can pickup keys to look
at the apartment to determine if you wish to rent it.
Renting an Apartment:
If you rent an apartment, you are required to:

sign a lease, (tenant can have roommates, but the apartment will only
be leased under one person's name)
- transfer
the electric billing (AEP) account to your name, and
- pay
a security deposit equivalent to one month's rent (cash, check, or
charge).
Paying
Rent:
Rent for a student is applied to his or her Student's Account. Rent
is due and payable to Student Accounts on the first day of the month
(exception: if a payment plan has already been agreed upon through Student
Accounts).
Rent for an employee is paid via payroll deduction for the current month's
rent.
Apartment Rules & Guidelines:
- Tenants are
not permitted at any time to house a dog in an apartment. Tenants
found to be housing a dog will be charged a $5.00 / day penalty until
the dog is removed.
- Tenants are
not permitted to install satellite dishes to the outside of the apartment
building.
- Tenants are
responsible for disposing of their own trash. Do not leave trash or
trash bags outside of the apartment.
- Tenants are
responsible for all utilities except for water & sewage.
- Tenants in apartments
without mailboxes are responsible for obtaining a post office box
at the Ferrum U.S. Post Office. (exception: students can continue
to utilize the on-campus post office).
- Tenants are
responsible for the total cost of any damage to the apartment.
- Tenants must
request permission to install additional cable or telephone jacks
in an apartment. Contact the Business Office at X 4233.
- Student tenants
are subject to the firearm policy and other applicable policies as
listed in the Student Handbook.
- Repairs that
need attention should be communicated directly to the Physical Plant
Office at X4250.
- Tenants are
responsible for obtaining renter's insurance on personal property.
The College is not responsible for damage to or loss of personal property
during the term of the lease.
- Tenants found
to be in violation of state and federal laws and/or College policies
may be required to vacate an apartment.
- Tenants must
give 60 days written notice of plans to vacate college-owned housing.
