As your new Alumni Board of Directors President, I want to welcome you to the Alumni
Association. This association is made up of your classmates and friends who want
to help strengthen our ties with Ferrum College and each other. We all have a common
bond and that is a love for this great institution. Please let me or any of our board
members know any ideas or suggestions you may have on how we can better serve you.
It's not very often you can celebrate 100 years and this is a year filled with opportunities
to see fellow alums, celebrate Ferrum's history, and help build Ferrum's future for
the next 100 years. We continue to host celebration events throughout June 2014.
We hope you will make plans to attend.
One of my goals as the Alumni Board President is to help increase our alumni giving
percentage. If you think back to your times at Ferrum and the opportunities we received
as students, you will realize that it took not only your tuition to make those happen
but also the gifts from alumni and friends of Ferrum. Each donor wanted to make a
difference and I am challenging each of you to also make a difference in a deserving
student's life and give them a chance at the same opportunities we had.
We don't realize how important the alumni giving percentage is in the eyes of other
donors and businesses that would want to invest in Ferrum College. If the alumni
choose not to support Ferrum, then why would others want to make gifts? The size
of the gift doesn't matter when looking at the alumni giving percentage, it's the
fact you made a gift. A $5 donation will go a long way!
Lastly, the Alumni Board of Directors is tasked with selecting worthy candidates for
the Distinguished Alumni Award that is given out annually at Homecoming. We are looking
to increase our nomination pool and need your help. The criteria for selection can
be found at http://www.ferrum.edu/giving_to_ferrum/alumni_family_programs/get_involved.html. Please review this page and send us eligible candidates who are worthy of receiving
I look forward to seeing many of you at chapter events and other gatherings of Ferrum
