David Norford ’65, of King George, was appointed a marriage commissioner by the circuit court of King
George County, VA. Donna Norford will retire from the Office of the Commonwealth
Attorney on June 30, 2015 and join David as marriage commissioner.
Pamela Jones '67, of Urbanna, is retired.
Albert Fritter '69 and his wife, Betty Fritter '69, of Mechanicsville, are both retired.
Mike Henson '69 wed Jo Ann Carter '68 on October 22, 2015. They dated at Ferrum in 1968 but parted ways and then reconnected
in August of 2014.
Curtis A. Johnson '71, of Montoursville, PA was recently diagnosed with ALS. While at Ferrum, Curtis played
football and baseball. He recently stepped away from a 37 year coaching career, which
included coaching at every level from Tball to Division 1 softball. Highlights of
his coaching career included winning a 16 to 18 year old softball World Championship
and a Pennsylvania State Softball Championship at Loyalsock High School (28-0) record.
He has also been Booster Club President at Loyalsock for 18 years. One of his former
players, Kelly Caputo, attended and coached at Ferrum. Curtis would like to thank
Hank Norton, Bill Passon, and Jerry Kirk for their inspiration.
Mark Sandy '72, of Richmond, KY, is employed by Ball State University as a the athletic director.
Ken Carpenter '74, of Lenoir, is retired. His life long passion for horses was created in the Ferrum
riding program. The additional knowledge gained in AG classes and in the horse club
gave him a good foundation of knowledge.
Tony Drayton '77, of Clinton, MD, is retired.
Melissa Powell Gay '77, of Glen Allen, published a novel, When Are You Leaving. The novel is set in southwestern
VA, somewhere between Franklin County and Roanoke. The story is about a small town
living in a 21st century world. She blogs about her book and southern living at thiscommonreader.com
and is currently working on her second novel. When Are You Leaving may be purchased

Al Latimer '77, of Apopka, FL, has published a novel, The Irregular Ordination of Preacher Jim.
For the last 18 years, Al has been a senior member of Florida Governor's office of
economic development. He also serves on the state's Higher Education Coordinating
Council, which advises the Florida Legislature on education and workforce talent issues.
Writing has been his hobby and stress reliever since high school. You can find out

Charlie Lynch '81, of Norfolk, is employed by the US Navy as a senior inspector for SMART team at Military
Charles Neal '81, of Durham, NC, is employed by Domino's Pizza as a delivery driver. He has worked
as a driver and manager for the last 33 years. He recently published a book called

Dave Treen '81, of Cherry Hill, NJ, won three medals in three events in the Southern Zone long-course
meter swimming championships. Winning gold in the 200 breaststroke, silver in the
100 breaststroke and bronze in the 50 breaststroke.

Glenn E. Thompson '11, of Glade Hill, received his masters of business administration from Cleary University
in 2013 with the specialty of green business strategies. He went on to obtain training
and certification as a corporate sustainability manager and as a LEED green associate.
He serves as the project sustainability manager and LEED consultant for Renewable
Engineered Systems and also serves in the same role for the Henricopolis Medical College
Project in Martinsville. He has been accepted into Baker Business College's Doctor
of Business Administration Program.
