Clark family members cut ribbon on Clark Hall On a beautiful November afternoon, family, friends, faculty and staff came together to dedicate Clark Hall, the college's newest residence hall, named in memory of Margaret Clark, a dedicated Ferrum employee for 44 years. Clark passed away in June after a brief illness. Members of her family, former and current students, and colleagues took part in the dedication ceremony and offered special memories and stories about the woman who was so special to so many.

During most of her 44 years at the college, Clark served as the college’s registrar, where she made a profound impact upon the lives of generations of students. She always felt a strong responsibility to "be there for students" in the way in which she would like to have someone help her own child. One of the many speakers who spoke about Margaret was Ferrum College SGA President, Tim Shipe. Shipe described the time he first met Margaret. He said it was her friendly face and warm smile that welcomed him to Ferrum as he was rushing around the campus trying to find out where he needed to be during open house. He said after that meeting, he was quick to realize why she had become known as “Mama Clark” to so many. He, along with Dr. Leslie Lambert, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Mrs. Gilda Woods, Director of Admissions and Mr. Carthan Currin '84, all shared their favorite memories of Margaret. After the remarks, there was an official ribbon cutting ceremony and everyone was welcomed inside for a tour of the building.

Construction on the three-story residence hall began in late March and was completed in time for the fall semester. Located on the west side of campus, Clark Hall houses 120 students, two to a room, and has helped accommodate the continuing growth in enrollment that the college has experienced over the last several years. Mod-U-Kraf Homes of Rocky Mount constructed most of the all-brick structure off-site. Scott Manufacturing, Rocky Mount Supply, Blackwater Door & Millwork, and MW Manufacturers Inc. are just a few of the other local companies that were involved in the project. The use of these businesses helped give an economic boost to our area, not only in Franklin County, but surrounding regions as well.
