About F1

Mission
F1 is an ongoing, internal campaign designed to invigorate and educate faculty and staff on marketing, public relations and crisis issues in order to promote a more unified voice and image for Ferrum College.

Purpose
In order to communicate to external audiences effectively, the voice of Ferrum College must be representative of its vision. Such an effort to provide a cohesive image must not be demanded via rules and policy, but encouraged through campus pride and want for the College to succeed. Brand awareness begins internally. In the July 2002 Web Marketing Plan it was discussed that one of the single biggest challenges facing Public Relations at Ferrum College was the lack of internal education and buy-in to marketing/public relation’s concepts. It is important that we recognize the obstacle this lack of unity signifies. Without an integration of comprehensive proportion the institution sends out mixed signals to our audiences: Poorly designed materials feature various logos and copy of equally varying quality for outside audiences; Events are planned and executed with little or no proper publicity; Media miss the opportunity to interact with the experts they need and we can provide; and so on... Without a climate of integration, repositioning will be a far more difficult task to undertake and maintain.

In conjunction with the other flagship communication devices of the administration such as the Ferrum Magazine (FM) and the Ferrum e-newsletter (Fe) the Public Relations department of Ferrum College proposes the creation of F1. This campaign will consist of traditional communiqués (letters and flyers) as well as electronic resources (an independent website and emails). F1 will be a major internal initiative on behalf of Public Relations in order to establish standards of operation and promote marketing, public relations and crisis education to the faculty and staff of the Ferrum campus. In some ways the Public Relations office’s internal operations will become synonymous with F1, and such a perceived relationship will be cultivated as a positive one.
