ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF AGRONOMY/AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES – Tenure Track

The Ferrum College School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics is seeking applicants for a tenure-track faculty position of Assistant Professor of Agronomy/Agricultural Sciences with a background in Agronomy. The new faculty member would teach agriculture-related courses such as Agriculture Issues, Field and Forage Crop Production, Soil Science and Management, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Farm Business Management, Plant Diseases, and Plant Pest Management and biology courses such as Plant Science. The successful candidate will also have plans to work with undergraduate students on applicable practicum and independent research projects. A Ph.D. in Agronomy or a related discipline is required for the rank of Assistant Professor. This faculty member will coordinate aspects of the Agricultural Sciences Program, supervise our 80-acre campus Agriculture Education Center and work with our Farm Manager on the academic usage of farm facilities. We are seeking candidates that are interested in involving students in research, who are willing to be involved in community outreach in sustainable agriculture and will interact with the campus Agriculture Club and Ferrum’s agriculture alumni. ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF TEACHER EDUCATION (ELEMENTARY LITERACY) – Tenure-Track

The Ferrum College School of Social Science and Professional Studies is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position as an Assistant/Associate Professor in Teacher Education with an emphasis of Literacy Education. Candidates should have a strong emphasis on literacy for students on multiple levels, and will contribute to an emphasis on preparing teachers in both Elementary Education and Secondary Education. This is a full time position with a nine-month academic appointment in the College of Social Science and Professional Studies. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in college teaching. Candidates who can enhance the Teacher Education program’s commitment to diversity through teaching, research, and service are encouraged to apply. The Application due date is April 26, 2013.
Required qualifications include: An earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction and/or Literacy Education or closely related field with a strong emphasis in elementary literacy for students is required.
The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill the following responsibilities:
o Teach and advise undergraduate students;
o Contribute leadership and programmatic oversight in Elementary and Secondary Literacy;
o Collaborate with area agencies and/or schools;
o Supervise field-based experiences;
o Provide service to the university, the community and professional organizations.
Preference will be given to candidates with the following criteria:
o Experienced literacy teaching in educational settings including work with culturally, economically and linguistically diverse students at both the elementary and secondary level
o Demonstrated success in teaching at the college level;
o Ability to teach with and about 21st-century literacies, including digital literacies and multimodal literacies.
o Demonstrated understanding of educational pedagogy

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF RECREATION LEADERSHIP – Tenure Track

The Ferrum College School of Social Science and Professional Studies is seeking to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Recreation Leadership beginning in the fall 2013. A Ph.D. in Recreation and Parks or a related field required, with an emphasis in Ecotourism preferred. Candidates will be responsible for teaching courses in the Recreation Leadership major and the Ecotourism minor. Other duties include engaging students in an advisory capacity, participating in and contributing to faculty committees, and contributing to the health of the college community. Applicants must have experience in college/university teaching, development and leadership of innovative, interdisciplinary linkages, and a demonstrated scholarly research agenda. Experiential education methodologies are encouraged. At this time, this person would also likely serve as Program Coordinator for the Recreation Leadership Program. Duties as Program Coordinator include course and program assessment, program development and planning, schedule coordination, and budget oversight.
