Dr. Gail Summer
Dr. Gail Summer holds a B.S. degree from Indiana University,
an M.Ed. from the University of South Carolina, and an Ed.D. from the
University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has taught in
the public schools of South Carolina, at UNCG, and at Lenoir-Rhyne
College. Since
arriving at Lenoir-Rhyne in 1989, in addition to serving on the faculty
as a tenured full professor, she has also served in a variety of administrative
roles from Director of Teacher Education to Interim Vice President
for Academic Affairs, and most recently she served as Dean of Academic
Programs. She has provided support to various programs and committees
on the Lenoir-Rhyne campus, including honors programs, academic programs
and policies, academic standing, freshman orientation, faculty development,
new faculty orientation, and convocation planning. She has experience
with accreditation review systems at the state level and also at the
national level with NCATE and SACS. She is an active presenter
at early childhood professional conferences at the state and national
levels. She recently co-authored the chapter “Literacy Development”
in Practical Approaches to Early Childhood Professional Development published
by Zero to Three Press. She has been active in the community
as well, serving on the United Way Board, the Catawba County Partnership
for Children Board, on various committees and as Assisting Lay Minister
at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, and as a Girl Scout Leader whose troop
worked all the way through the Gold Award. She has twin daughters
who are juniors in college, enrolled at Furman University and Franklin
Pierce University.
