Faculty Recognition of Dr. Jody Brown Retired Professor of English November 7, 2003 Over the years, the Ferrum College community has acknowledged the end of a faculty member's service to the college. The ceremony during the Employee's Recognition dinner or the end of year faculty meeting often reminds the campus of that individual's impending partial or complete departure from our close knit academic community. On Friday, November 7, 2003 the Faculty Council (previously known as the Faculty Development and Affairs Committee) embarked on a new tradition which allows the faculty to acknowledge and recognize a colleague by highlighting their accomplishments and contributions to the College. We chose to inaugurate this practice of faculty recognizing faculty by celebrating the accomplishments of Dr. Jody Brown, Professor of English. Dr. Jody Brown was recognized during the reception for faculty and members of the Board of Trustees. It was the appropriate occasion since Dr. Brown can be easily described as a visionary, and the Board of Trustees is responsible for defining the vision of the College. Equally important, she is a faculty member who has worked quite methodically to give substantive meaning to vision statements from the Board, especially in her active roles on the Strategic Planning, Presidential Search and Curriculum committees, just to name a few. Dr. Brown was honored with a resolution that was unanimously approved by the entire faculty on October 24, 2003. The Division of History, Political Science and the Arts also recommended that five of the scholarships given to students in drama will now carry with them her name. These honors were officially bestowed on her by Dr. Frédéric Belle Torimiro, Chair of the Faculty Council and Associate Professor of Political Science. On this special day, the faculty wanted Dr. Jody Brown to know that we have been proud of her service to the College and to what we see as central to our mission to educate. She is a good role model, mentor and a remarkable lady with energy who deserves the admiration, appreciation, acknowledgement, and recognition of her colleagues on the faculty. Submitted by: Dr. Frédéric Belle Torimiro, Chair of the Faculty Council
