Ferrum College is pleased to announce an
educational opportunity to help you prepare to succeed in today's Global
Community. Whether you anticipate a
career in business, government, education, social services, the law or medical services,
your profession will bring you into contact with colleagues from around the
world. The telephone, the FAX, the
Internet and related electronic communication technology coupled with speedy
air travel have created a global community in which you will live and work for
the duration of your lives. The ability
to function comfortably and effectively in that world is an important job
trait.
A semester or summer abroad has long been
valued as much more than a sightseeing trip; today more than ever it is an
opportunity to experience firsthand another culture and political system, to
acquaint yourself with other customs, work habits and life styles and to avail
yourself of the beauty, wisdom and virtues of another nation as you seek to
define your own values and gain a sense of how you will adapt to the modern
global workplace. A semester abroad is
an excellent confidence builder and a great way to develop breadth of
understanding and personal and professional maturity.
Through our participation in the Private
College Consortium for International Study, Ferrum students can now spend a
term in London, England, probably the most cosmopolitan of world capitals--and
this can be done at a cost only a little more than a normal semester on campus. This well-established program is based
abroad at Imperial College of the University of London and offers the following
distinctive features:
‚ Earn
12-15 hours of credit in courses taught by American professors. Courses offered are designed to fulfill general
education requirements.
‚ Courses
offered transfer readily to Ferrum with no loss of credit.
‚ Live
in a London flat operated by PCCIS and walk to classes at Imperial College in
London's safe and pleasant Kensington neighborhood.
‚ Take
advantage of great scientific and cultural resources immediately adjacent to
the Imperial College campus, The British Museum, The Victoria and Albert
Museum, the Royal Albert Hall, and The Royal College of Music.
‚ Share
in the required British Life and Culture Course with weekly field trips to such
sites of historical and cultural interest as Parliament, the Tate Gallery, the
Tower of London, Stratford-on-Avon, Warwick Castle, National or Royal
Shakespeare Company productions and much more.
‚ Take
advantage of reduced-rate weekend trips to France, Belgium and Holland and
arrange other inexpensive student trips through the Imperial College student
travel service.
‚ Through
your semester experience prepare for a return stay in London in your junior or
senior year on a credit-earning professional internship arranged through PCCIS.
It is never too late to plan for this
great educational experience. Your
schedule should be arranged so that you can meet general education requirements
with courses taken while in London. If
