As the world leader in bioinnovation, Novozymes, which is located in Salem, Va., uses industrial biotechnology to re-engineer everyday products to deliver enhanced sustainability performance, introducing energy cost savings, and decreased raw material costs to customers. Novozymes’ biosolutions enable everything from the removal of trans fats in food to advancements in renewable energy sources.

During his time on campus, Patterson will share experiences from his eighteen years with Novozymes on balancing financial, social, and environmental goals to address a growing need for companies to make more from less due to population growth, resource scarcity and climate change. Patterson’s visit highlights a schedule of fall events developed around the College’s 2012 – 2013 theme Sustainability: More for Less, for All.

“We are excited that our students will have the opportunity to learn first-hand what is possible when nature and technology join forces in biotechnology from such an innovative industry leader as Patrick Patterson,” said Ferrum College Vice President for Institutional Advancement Kim Blair.

Novozymes is ranked among the top 25 best companies to work for in America and for the tenth time is the industry leader of the biotechnology sector in the Dow Jones World and STOXX Sustainability Indexes. The company currently markets 700 biotechnology products in 130 countries.

The Executive in Residence initiative at Ferrum College brings the real world business experience of current and retired business professionals to campus. Guest executives tour campus, audit classes, interact with students and faculty and are asked to deliver a lecture sharing their personal experiences and philosophies. Speakers offer insight on the knowledge, skills and leadership qualities necessary for a successful business career.
