Hannuksela Participates in Roundtable Discussion on Capitol Hill

Senators Kaine and Warner invited students from 20 Virginia colleges and universities to share their concerns about student debt.

Ferrum - Ferrum College Student Government Association President Danielle Hannuksela '16 joined student leaders from 20 Virginia colleges and universities on Capitol Hill to share their concerns about the rising costs of higher education during a roundtable discussion hosted on Wed., Jan. 27, 2016, by U.S. Sens. Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine (both D-VA). Hannuksela traveled to Washington D.C. with Dr. Sandra Via, assistant professor of political science at the College.

"The trip was a great experience and it was an honor to represent Ferrum College," said Hannuksela, who is pictured below speaking to the assembled roundtable participants. "I was able to meet and connect with other student leaders from around Virginia and share our input on student debt and the impacts it has and will continue to have on graduates if college tuition continues to rise. I think Senator Warner and Senator Kaine are very aware of the issue they are trying to solve and the main goal now is how do we reasonably fix it."
