Ferrum College's Dr. Delia Heck Co-hosts Event at Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke

10/23/2012

Perspectives on Edward Burtynsky: Oil

Thursday, October 25, 6:30 p.m., Taubman Museum of Art, 110 Salem Avenue SE, Roanoke, Virginia

with Lori Pauli (Associate Curator of Photographs, National Gallery of Canada) and Dr. Delia Heck (Associate Professor of Environmental Science and Program Coordinator, Environmental Planning and Development, Ferrum College)

Photographer Edward Burtynsky's color landscapes encompass a kind of modern-day "lifecycle" of oil, the energy source that has shaped the modern world. In this exciting program, Lori Pauli, author of Manufactured Landscapes, will introduce us to these striking photographs.

Pauli and Delia Heck, associate professor of Environmental Science, will then host a conversation about how we might interpret these works in the dual contexts of art history and environmental science.
