Ferrum College to Host Spring Fever 5K Run.

Event is a fundraiser for campus Rotaract Club and the United Way.

Ferrum, Va. (February 25, 2011) – Get ready to lace up your running shoes to celebrate Spring and burn a few calories for a good cause.

The Ferrum College Rotaract Club is sponsoring the Spring Fever 5K Run on Saturday, March 26 at 9 a.m. at Ferrum College.   The run is open to members of the public age 13 and over, as well as students and other members of the campus community.

In addition to the 5K (3.1 mile) option, there will be a shorter, one mile fun run as well.  The cost is $10 for Ferrum students.  The general public is encouraged to sign up early to save money.  Early Bird registrants will pay $20 if they sign up by March 13.   The fee is $25 until March 25, and $30 on race day.  Participants may sign up from 7:45 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. the day of the race.  All those who pre-register will receive a t-shirt.

Ferrum College (title) Rol Walters said that the race was an important project for the Rotaract Club.  “Rotaract is the college arm of the local Rotary Club,” explained Walters.  “The Rotary Club’s motto is Service Above Self.  Ferrum’s is Not Self But Others, so clearly this is in keeping with the mission of both.   Walters said proceeds from the event will help Rotaract with future projects, and a portion will be donated to United Way of Franklin County.  Walters thanked Member One Credit Union for sponsoring the event.

Those interested in more information should contact Brittany Shifflet at Bshifflett@ferrum.edu.  More information about the race, and an electronic sign up form are available at the Rotaract website http://rotaractfc.weebly.com.
