Ferrum College Names Women’s Swim Coach
Lindsay DeLaRosby already recruiting for team’s inaugural season.
Ferrum, Va. (March 1, 2011) –Abe Naff, Ferrum College Director of Athletics, announced today that Lindsay DeLaRosby
has been named head coach of the new Ferrum College women’s swim team, which will
compete in its inaugural season during the 2011-12 school year.
DeLaRosby comes to Ferrum from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, where she
served the past year as assistant swim coach for both the men’s and women’s programs.
Prior to joining the staff at Trinity, DeLaRosby served as assistant swim coach at
Springfield College in Massachusetts.
“Women’s swimming is a wonderful addition to Ferrum’s intercollegiate sports,” said
College President Jennifer Braaten. “We wanted to give our female student athletes
more opportunities to compete and the swim program complements all that we already
offer. Lindsay DeLaRosby’s experience as both an athlete and a coach make her an
excellent addition to our staff,” Braaten said.
DeLaRosby set the school record in the 50-year freestyle for Saint Mary’s University
in Winona, Minnesota during her senior year in 2005. In addition to her undergraduate
degree, DeLaRosby earned her M.Ed. in Physical Education Athletic Administration from
Springfield College in 2010.
DeLaRosby is also proficient in FrontRush recruiting software, and plans to begin
recruiting swimmers from the high school ranks immediately. She also hopes a number
of students already enrolled at Ferrum will want to compete for the Panthers. DeLaRosby
says she would like to have “at least 20” swimmers by the time the season starts in
late fall of 2011.
At Ferrum, DeLaRosby will have complete responsibility for all aspects of Ferrum’s
NCAA women’s swimming program. She will serve as coordinator of Ferrum’s indoor swimming
pool, located in the lower level of Swartz Gymnasium.
