Ferrum College Marks Close of Hugely Successful “Raising the Bar” Capital Campaign

Ferrum College is excited to announce that its capital campaign, “Raising the Bar,” the largest fundraising effort in the College’s history, has raised a total of over $20.6 million – easily surpassing the initial fundraising goal of $16.8 million. The College celebrated the finale of the Campaign at a weekend event in Colonial Williamsburg where members of the Board of Trustees, major donors, and special friends of the College gathered to celebrate the Campaign’s success.

The Raising the Bar campaign touched every area of Ferrum’s campus and included funds raised for capital building projects, new endowments and unrestricted funds used primarily to underwrite student scholarships. Raising the Bar added nearly $6.5 million in new endowment dollars and over $8.5 million in operating funds used to provide financial aid to Ferrum students. Significant capital projects funded through the campaign included the renovation of Roberts Hall, classroom upgrades and renovations in Beckham Hall, extensive work on the Burrows Tennis Courts, improvements at the Blue Ridge Institute, construction of the Franklin Community Bank Field, the new home of Ferrum’s women’s softball team, and the Penn-Roediger Field, home of men’s and women’s soccer and lacrosse. Fundraising efforts continue for a signature component of the campaign, the proposed Hank Norton Athletic Center named in honor of Ferrum’s legendary former football coach. During the Williamsburg event, held July 31- August 2, Ferrum’s president, Jennifer Braaten, expressed immense gratitude to donors and friends on behalf of the students, faculty and staff. The weekend also presented a unique opportunity to showcase the expertise of Ferrum alumni and staff. “Insider’s Tours” of historic sites were led by Ferrum alumnus Ed Chappell ’69, Colonial Williamsburg’s Director of Architectural Research, and Roddy Moore, nationally renowned Director of Ferrum’s Blue Ridge Institute and Museum.
