BRDT Directors' Farewell Season Sets the Stage for More Theatrical Opportunities at
Traditional favorites, new venues & children’s theatre among offerings under consideration.
Ferrum, Va. (July 3, 2012) – Ferrum College recently announced the planned retirement of Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre
Artistic Director Rex Stephenson and Executive Director Jody Brown at the end of the
Theatre’s 2012 summer season. For 33 years, Stephenson and Brown partnered with the
College to bring top-notch theatrical entertainment to the region and they will continue
to be an important resource as Ferrum explores new venues and innovative ways to sustain
its tradition of providing quality entertainment.
“Ferrum College is proud of our long-term partnership with the Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre,”
said President Jennifer Braaten. “We are blessed that so many thousands of patrons
returned year after year to enjoy acclaimed dramas, comedies and musicals, as well
as the outstanding original productions that debuted on the Sale Theatre stage. We
are also extremely grateful to the businesses and individuals who have been so generous
in their financial support.
“Rex and Jody’s contributions to the College and the community are inestimable,” continued
Braaten. “After more than three decades, their decision to retire was not unexpected
and they would be the first to say ‘the show must go on!’” Ideas under consideration
include children’s theatre, continuing the Jack Tale Players under the auspices of
the Blue Ridge Institute & Museum (the official state repository of Blue Ridge folklore),
and summer outdoor performances at Hart International Plaza in the center of campus.
