Ferrum College President Jennifer Braaten Joins CIC Board of Directors
Ferrum, Va. (Feb. 26, 2014) – Jennifer L. Braaten, president of Ferrum College, was elected to the Council of Independent
Colleges (CIC) Board of Directors during CIC’s annual Presidents Institute in Marco
Island, Florida on January 4. Dr. Braaten’s three-year term runs from January 2014
to January 2017.
The CIC is a national organization that focuses solely on providing services and a
broad range of initiatives to independent colleges and universities to help improve
the quality of education and strengthen institutional resources.
“The Council is pleased to have Jennifer Braaten as a Board member,” said CIC President
Richard Ekman. “CIC continues to implement many exciting new programs, projects, and
services, and needs a strong Board of Directors to oversee their planning and execution.
I am certain that Dr. Braaten will serve the Council admirably, and look forward to
working with her.”
Dr. Braaten noted that her election to the CIC Board of Directors comes during a period
when the role of the organization is becoming ever more important to its 600+ members.
“The CIC will play a critical part in informing and helping guide its constituents
through the landscape of challenges that are shaping the future of higher education,”
said Braaten. “It is an honor for Ferrum College and for me to be asked to serve
the CIC at this decisive time in our history.”
